I am officially addicted to blogging. But why? Because, it's creating and sharing and motivating.
I'd rather blog than watch a movie. That's how I know that I'm truly in love. Oh, and the butterflies. Sometimes I get butterflies when I think about my blog. It sounds weird, but I'm just so excited about it!
I toil and I create and I do uncomfortable things. It's hard learning something for the first time. These (techy) things cause physical pain, they make my brain hurt!
So let's see, I've been blogging for about 4 months (I started at the end of Jan. 2012). And I'm obviously not an expert, but even though you DIDN'T ask, I thought I'd share some bits of advice to new bloggers. Like the people who have only been blogging for one month, since I'm essentially a new blogger myself. lol.
"lol" means, laughing out loud, which I didn't actually just do, I kinda chuckled inside. "kci" stands for, kinda chuckled inside. There! That's a more honest acronym.
10 Bits of blogging advice that you didn't ask for...
- Pick a clean template, use lots of big, juicy images, try not to clutter it up, and keep things visually balanced.
- Please do not put "musings" "ramblings" or "rantings" in your blog title. It's a tad overdone (if you've already done it, it's fine, I was only kidding).
- Don't compare your blog to other blogs. It will only make you feel bad. Unless, of course, you go far, far back in their archives to see how lame their first blog posts looked. That might actually encourage you!
- Do study other blogs to see what you like about them- photos, content, layouts etc. Experiment in your dashboard, and don't worry about proof reading because you will only find errors once you've published your post anyway.
- Blog for fun, post consistently, spam your friends and get to know other new bloggers.
- Code kills. Just find html to cut and paste and try to get out alive.
- Make it easy for visitors to find content on your site. Show them a taste of what you offer by having featured posts and an intriguing "about me" page (I'm still working on that one)!
- Schedule posts ahead of time and keep a big, long list of ideas for upcoming posts (when you're uninspired). Ask your friends what you should write about. After all, they're the ones that have to read it.
- Name all of your images and use keywords in your post. This way, more people can find you.
- Finally, Don't sleep at night, just blog instead.
Do you like how I fit 30 things into "10 bits of advice"??
Are there any bloggers out there that have MORE amateur tips to share? Or perhaps better advice? Anyone who has been blogging for, let's say, 5+ months. *wink, wink*
Anyone?
